Bracelet Making – Custom Bead Jewelry using Polymer Clay Beads

Making Custom Polymer Clay Bead Bracelets – Pleasing The Customer Always Pays Off In The End:

Recently a friend asked me to make a custom bracelet she could give as a gift to a co-worker. She told me up front what the budget was, which is great! It allows you to establish limits for how much time you should spend on it, as well as what handmade beads and materials to include.

So I put together a simple but pretty blue beaded bracelet. In fact it is the very one I showed the other day in a different post. You can see the photo here: Polymer Clay Focal Beads

The problem was, I knew that this co-worker’s taste was much more conservative than mine. The bright chunky look of the blue bracelet was likely going to be too bold for her tiny little wrist.

So now what? My friend needed it “now,” and I wasn’t sure if I had time to make another one!

In a panic, I started digging around in my polymer clay bead stash to see if there was something that would suit her better. Something pretty but definitely not flashy. Something that could be made up very quickly but still worth the price my friend wanted to pay.

What I came up with is pictured in the photo above. It ended up looking much more dainty on the wrist, and I figured it was perfect for the woman who was going to receive it. I also felt much better being able to offer my friend a choice between the two bracelets.

What happened was she ended up buying both of them! The dainty one for her co-worker and the blue beaded bracelet for her sister. Bonus!

The moral of the story is… it is never a waste of time making something again if you didn’t get it right the first time. Custom work is about pleasing the customer. And sometimes it can take more time than expected to get it right. But in the end, a happy customer is a repeat customer… and repeat customers are the very best kind!

  • Thanks for sharing your experiences Stephanie! It sounds like you got something working for you!

I like that bead too! It does look like a candy!

  • I just recently finished a custom tiger eye necklace for a customer who had already purchased the bracelet and earrings. I knew this customer loved sets and that she would be asking for a necklace. The minute her email came across I had a vision of how I wanted to design it. She gives me free reign on the style/design and so far, all her custom pieces have been designed to her style and taste and she has left a happy customer!

BTW-I love the “swirly” bead in your picture, reminds me of those red and white swirl peppermint hard candies!
