The other day, you may have seen the faux turquoise polymer clay clock I blogged about. It was a birthday gift for my father-in-law. In that post was a reference to another gift clock, this time for my own Dad’s birthday. Today’s photo shows that second creation. And as you can see, it has a fish theme.

Birthday Gift Ideas for Men – Faux Turquoise Polymer Clay Clock
The fish clock was inspired by a few things. First of all, my father is a commercial fisherman who has just retired. Over the years, I have made all sorts of fish related things for him.
He’s always enjoyed receiving my “rock fish” creations — polymer clay covered rocks in various shapes and forms. But I had yet to make him a clock.
With all the experimenting I’ve been doing lately, using my Faux Raku polymer clay techniques, this project allowed me to try out a few new things.
I would also like to give an inspirational shout out to polymer clay artist Gera Scott Chandler. I’ve admired her brightly colored crackled finish artwork for a while now. It was a serendipitous discovery of her square fish clock on Flickr that moved me to make my own fishy time piece.
I would never feel right copying someone’s work exactly. So I came up with my own version of a polymer clay fish clock, as you can see in the photo above. That being said, I would still like to say thanks to you, Gera, for doing what you do. I’m sure your creative pieces have had a positive influence on more than just myself.
By the way… my Dad loved his birthday gift!

Wow, this is a beautiful clock, too! You sure did make some gorgeous clocks for your dad and “dad-in-law.” I can’t decide which “faux” I like better–this raku or that amazing turquoise? Either way, it’s some good stuff!

What a beautiful clock! I am sure your dad loved it. I love the colors. I haven’t had time to play with polymer this month but I am itching to try that faux raku technique. I love how all the colors blend well together…just awesome.

Hi, Cindy! I don’t know why I was expecting it to be cartoonish (even if that’s not your style at all). It’s subtle and exquisite and I love it. Not to speak of your faux raku techniques that are completely new to me. I like even more than the faux turquoise one.
