** This post is an introduction to one of our paid color palettes.
If only you could feel, in your soul, what it felt like to be standing with me on this beach, gazing along the shoreline of those amazing windswept cliffs at Ocean Shores in the state of Washington.
The miles of beach, the pounding surf, the trees struggling against the unrelenting winds… all of it lets you know that Mother Nature is definitely in charge… and that we as humans are just visitors here on this great big planet.
If you look along the right-hand side of the photo, you can see a faint glimpse of the salty air mist that was continually rising up from the shoreline. If I could move the camera lens over to the right a bit, you would see the huge waves crashing in on the sand. We’ll show you more of that scene in future posts, don’t worry.
Naturally, when a piece of nature strikes such a chord in your heart, it only makes sense to let it inspire your art. And so, I decided to create the Ocean Shores Palette for Volume-042 [B-series] color recipe collection.
Sand Dunes is the pale sandy color of the dunes at the base of the eroded cliff side and the sandy shores along the beach. Cliff Banks is the ochre color of the red clay in the cliff side as it crumbles into the sea. Windswept Evergreens is the dusty dark green of the evergreen trees that cling precariously to the cliffs as they brave the relentless winds. And Beach Grass is the softer, paler green of the grasses along the shoreline, swaying and bending in the salty air.

With Fall in the air, a perfect time to think about what nature has in store for us. In the southwest US it it just barely fall, but where you live, Lietz family, it is approaching winter. So now is the time to contemplate coming of winter. The colors in this palette reflect some of natures best colors. Wind swept hillsides and crashing waves………..Ahhhhh I can smell the salt air…………….. Lovely colors and the changing of seasons………
You have an artists soul Cindy. The colors of Nature are so beautiful and I know what you mean and feel when standing on such a shoreline. Your whole being becomes enveloped in the sounds and smells of nature. Now I am excited to see the next tute your teasing us about……I can’t wait until Friday!
Not certain if I am posting this in the proper place…It was a request for a tutorial ‘wishlist’…if this isn’t the proper place someone please let me know where I should post this…
Anyhow, I was thinking that a tutorial on covering pens, crochet hooks, knitting needleor votive candle holders s in polymer clay would make an awesome tutorial. With the holidays coming up these make wonderful gifts and it would allow us to use up misc. canes and scrap clay and in general generate alot of chatter on this forum.
I love the ones I have seen and made, and so do my family and friends (okay, that is what they tell me anyhow) who have received them as gifts, although I know that I can always do better, and I always am learning new things from everyone on the questions I post.
So, just throwing this one out there and hoping that it sticks :)
Thank you so much Laura for your Tute Requests. It is perfectly fine to talk about these kind of requests here. I will take your ideas into consideration, but do know that the tutorials are already planned for the rest of this year, so unfortunately they won’t be ready for this Christmas Season. Sorry about that.
I just love these colours, green is my favourite. As you can tell from the U (in ‘colours and favourite’) I am from ‘across the pond’ and lucky to live in England, a very green place. I have to say our sand dunes look very different to the one in the picture, but Cindy it is very inspiring and I love to hear the story of the colour palettes.
I love greens. This palette is just wonderful.
