** This post is an introduction to one of our paid color palettes.

One of my favorite little plants in the garden is a wildflower that seems to sprout just where ever it wants to. It’s called the Johnny Jump-Up Viola. And since it is such a cute little guy, I’ve decided to use his vibrant colors as next month’s A-series color palette (Volume-023).

Johnny Jump-up is the rich, velvety Purple of the outer petals of the Johnny Jump-Up Viola. Song Bird Is the bright Blue rim of color that blends into White nearer to the center of the flower. Bird Bath is the deep azure blue of the gashes of color, radiating from the center, and Sunshine is the bright Yellow of the center of this delightful Wild Viola!

I’d love to see the Johnny Jump Up cane be the next cane making tutorial! My favorite idea for a cane of all those tossed out there in the past few weeks!

I’ve never heard these called Johnny Jump-Ups, but they are absolutely adorable in cane form. Great idea, Cindy! This looks like it would make a fun video!

Phaedrakat

Jony Jump Ups or Violas same flower so sweet to see. Lots of color variations in them being seen in the nurserys.

Just wanted to let you know that I would not be able to live without your color recipes. Thanks, Stephanie

  • All this talk of Spring when we here in the Southern hemisphere are moving towards Autumn. So how lovely to have those cheeky, gorgeous little flowers with their stunning colours in a cane. Thanks, Cindy, looking forward to April -not the cruellest month, T. S. Eliot, far from it. Mary

@Mary: Sorry Mary, I sometimes forget we aren’t all having the same weather! (Hey, at least I remember there’s a time difference.) Elizabeth K was saying something about having a cyclone or something? I need to check out her blog to hear more about it – sounds scary! Did that affect you too?

      • @Phaedrakat: Hi Kat, and thanks for mentioning it. You’re right about the time difference – almost an entire day from your east coast to our east coast because we’re at opposite ends of the International Date Line. Actually, any day I wake up, that’s a good day for me, no matter the season! Oz has had some cyclones, up north in Queensland and thousands of miles away too, on the other coast in Perth – we’re copping it both ways. But not here, where I am: no, it’s balmy and beautiful most of the year, never snows of course, not even a frost, so we miss out on the kaleidoscope (there’s that word again!) of the four seasons, but hey, mustn’t grumble – and we don’t. Clay on, Miss Phaedrakat. XX Mary

  • Cara said it first so I’ll just add “Ditto”.

  • Lovely color palette! Spring is definitely in the air here, birds singing and crocuses blooming everywhere and there’s a pair of collared doves sitting on eggs in a nest in one of our hedges.

And I LOVE the purple Viola colours, so pretty. :)

    • Gorgeous palette, Cindy! You know, it might be a good one to use for the Johnny Jump Up Cane! (I know – duh! I’m not THAT bad a head case!) Thanks for all the lovely color recipes!

@Silverleaf: Aha! That’s right, you do love the purples, don’t you? You’ve commented on that before. Me, too – they’re so pretty! You are definitely feeling the Spring, there, aren’t you? And spying a dove’s nest? I need to take a deep breath and let nature sink in. I’ve been cooped up to long to appreciate our change in the weather. Thanks for helping me “tune in” to Spring!

Now these Johnny Jump Up colors just warm my heart with the feeling of spring. Another picture I would love to have for my color recipe box. Thank you for the colors Cindy and thank you Doug for the picture. One thing is for sure all of Doug’s pictures are worth a thousand words or should I say a 1000 colors. Either way great job both of you!!!!!
Many Thanks and Many Uuuuuuuggggggggggs, Peggy
