Topics Covered In This Video:
- Several weeks ago, I did an initial product review of this versatile Sculpey Tool Organizer product.
- A couple of questions were brought up by viewers that I wanted to expand upon.
- First I have added a bunch of new tools to the organizer that I use in my studio.
- One viewer suggested that it looked like it was only designed for Sculpey products, and that a pen organizer would be just as good.
- I show that most of the tools I have stored in the unit are not actually Sculpey tools, and that the size and shape of the sections work very for a variety of items.
- Another viewer asked if it would store a polymer clay extruder… and it does, quite nicely, in one of the square slots beside where I store my acrylic roller. All the extruder dies sit nicely in one of the front tray slots as well.
- One person mentioned they were worried about getting cuts from the clay blades stared in the organizer… so I show a way to orient them in the unit safely.
- Added my Acrylic Brayer to the rounded slot at the front bottom of the organizer.
- Added the Sculpey Bead Baking Rack and Pins.
- Added a pair of scissors, metal files, paint brushes, Exacto knife… and there was still room for more!
- I am pretty impressed with how many tools and supplies are held in this organizer, with such a small footprint. I think you will be too!
00:00:03 –> 00:00:07 Hi guys, its Cindy Lietz, your Polymer Clay Tutor, and today’s Product Demo, I’m doing
00:00:07 –> 00:00:11 a quick update on the new Sculpey Tool Organizer.
00:00:11 –> 00:00:18 Now a little bit ago, I did a video review of the new tool organizer, and I put a whole
00:00:18 –> 00:00:24 bunch of stuff in there, but a couple of things came up since then and I just wanted to go
00:00:24 –> 00:00:25 update those for you.
00:00:25 –> 00:00:30 Now, first of all I’ve added a bunch of new things in here, believe it or not…and
00:00:30 –> 00:00:36 if you saw the video, there’s just tons in there, but a couple of things that some
00:00:36 –> 00:00:42 viewers have mentioned…one viewer had said that they thought it was just designed for
00:00:42 –> 00:00:47 the Sculpey tools, and a pen organizer would work just as well.
00:00:47 –> 00:00:53 Well, I wanted to show you that I have got a bunch of other things besides the Sculpey
00:00:53 –> 00:00:57 tools in here…and I’ll go over those in a second.
00:00:57 –> 00:01:03 Another thing that someone brought up is they asked if a Polymer clay extruder would fit
00:01:03 –> 00:01:08 in there…and they wanted to know before they bought it, so I ran and looked…and
00:01:08 –> 00:01:16 look it… it does, I’ve got the Walnut Hollow Extruder sitting in one of these back
00:01:16 –> 00:01:23 square sections…there’s 2 square ones, this one holds the acrylic roller, and then
00:01:23 –> 00:01:29 this one holds an extruder perfectly…the Makins one would fit in there no problem too,
00:01:29 –> 00:01:35 so that is really cool, I also was able to put all of the discs for the extruder right
00:01:35 –> 00:01:40 here in the slot, so there’s just tons of discs and I just put them in this little slot
00:01:40 –> 00:01:42 right here.
00:01:42 –> 00:01:48 And then another person mentioned that they were worried about the clay blades being in
00:01:48 –> 00:01:52 there and that they would be a… that somebody could cut themselves putting stuff in and
00:01:52 –> 00:02:00 out, well what I decided to do was put them on this side here and then make sure that
00:02:00 –> 00:02:06 all of the cutting surfaces were faced this way, so that they were up against here, and
00:02:06 –> 00:02:12 then there’s no cutting surfaces here, so if I’m taking stuff in and out, then it’s
00:02:12 –> 00:02:16 not an issue…I don’t think it’s a big problem for most people, I think most people
00:02:16 –> 00:02:20 would be able to see them, but you could do that if you were worried about it.
00:02:20 –> 00:02:28 The other things that I’ve added are a couple of cool things, first of all, I put my acrylic
00:02:28 –> 00:02:33 roller here, I had some of the rolling discs from the texture roller here before…
00:02:33 –> 00:02:38 I don’t ever use that tool, so I took that out and I put my acrylic roller here, I can
00:02:38 –> 00:02:41 just sit it there most of the time, and then if I need it out of the way, I can just tuck
00:02:41 –> 00:02:44 it up in here like that.
00:02:44 –> 00:02:51 I also added…these are the pins for the bead baking rack, the new Sculpey Bead Rack…I’m
00:02:51 –> 00:02:58 gonna have to show you that in a different video, but the actual rack itself, I just
00:02:58 –> 00:03:03 slipped into the back here and you can see, it fits on this upper part of the rack great,
00:03:03 –> 00:03:08 it could stick down in there as well…and like I said, I’ll explain how that rack
00:03:08 –> 00:03:13 works later so, but that was great to know, that it just sat right in there and it was
00:03:13 –> 00:03:16 out of the way.
00:03:16 –> 00:03:22 What else did I add…I added a pair of scissors in one of the blade slots, which is great,
00:03:22 –> 00:03:30 back in here I added all of my metal files, I added paint brushes, and I still have…oh
00:03:30 –> 00:03:34 I think, I don’t know if I’ve had this in here before, but I have the exacto knife
00:03:34 –> 00:03:40 in there and I still have 2 or 3 more slots left to put whatever I want.
00:03:40 –> 00:03:45 So I just thought I would show that to you…that you can get even more in there, like I mean
00:03:45 –> 00:03:52 a bead rack, an extruder, and all your tools, and scissors, and blades, and dies and all
00:03:52 –> 00:03:56 kinds of stuff in this tiny little footprint, I’m actually pretty impressed.
00:03:56 –> 00:04:02 So I just thought I’d show you that, and let me know what you think.
00:04:02 –> 00:04:05 And if you have any comments or questions about future videos, let me know about that
00:04:05 –> 00:04:08 too, and do let me know if you liked this video, alright?
00:04:08 –> 00:04:10 We’ll see you next time and bye for now.

Can you please tell me your tip on how to keep the handle from dropping out of the pasta machine.
Hi Heather I did a video on it… here is the link…
Does Your Pasta Machine Handle Keeping Falling Out?
Hi Cindy,
You know how you have been recommending Varathane Diamond Polyurethane Floor Finish as a finishing for polymer clay pieces in your tutorials?
I was told that it actually emits toxic fumes and that’s why there are now Eco version of this (and interior/exterior paint too) being sold to do the same job as polyurethane but with no VOC.
Besides passing this piece of information on to you, I was wondering if you could test a few Eco brands (with zero VOC) in your future testing lab videos?
Many thanks,
Joyce=
Thank you Joyce for passing this information along. I have not heard of this finish giving off toxic fumes. It is nice to hear there is an Eco version though. I’ll keep an eye out for that product for a future test lab.
Adding to my purchase list. Currently my tools are just dumped in a drawer (or 3…)
Thanks for this update Cindy! I also have tools EVERYWHERE when I’m intent on a project and I think this may be just the ticket. We’ve recently moved and I’m trying to get my new studio set up. Sounds like a trip to the craft store (already scoped them out in our new area) is in my immediate future. Thanks for all you do for us!
Cindy,
I think you just helped me make up my mind about the rack. If you saw how much wasted space and mess I have created in order to store all my stuff, you would be laughing at me! I am going back to Michael’s today to buy the rack! My brayer with the handle keeps sliding all over my table, my blades keep falling of of it, I have my 2 drawers stock full and need to move things just to get what I need, so thank you for the update. On another note, I did read what you posted, and warmed up my clay cutouts for the second hollow bead maker I bought, and then slowly pressed down on them to put them in place for baking. It worked out great, now I just need to bake both trays! I have so many beads to make, and adding the extra tray will work out great. Thank you again for all of your help and your kind words.
Before I go, I was wondering if you did any more tests with the new Souffle Clay, and if so, how do you think it holds up?
Hi Marianne, no I haven’t done more tests yet on the Souffle, but I suspect it will be a very good clay that will hold up very well… just have to figure out the ideal time to bake it for. The Studio by Sculpey clay was very similar and was an excellent clay.
I probably won’t be purchasing the Tool Rack since I made one from the PVC connectors and it has really worked out well for me. I am really surprised at this new rack though and if they would have come out with it last year I would have gotten it instead of going through all the work of making my own. At least now I know it’s there if I should ever need another one for other things. Thanks so much for showing this Cindy.
