Topics Covered In This Video:

  • Steve Clark from the Embossing Die Company contacted me about testing his really neat embossing die stamps for polymer clay, leather, soap, wax and fondant.
  • Made of high density plastic and can be made in almost any size and any design.
  • I had him make our PcT Logo in 1/4" x 1/4" and in 2" x 2".
  • Originally, I planned to use the large one for fridge magnets, but I think that the 2" size is too large for that. A 1 and 1/4" square would be better.
  • Not very expensive ($35-$40 depending on size).
  • Makes great signature stamps for polymer clay.
  • Does a beautiful job stamping rawhide leather.
  • Quick demo on how it works on polymer clay.
  • Demo stamping damp rawhide leather using the NEVERKnead Machine. You could also use a vise or hydraulic press.

00:00:03 –> 00:00:07 Hi guys its Cindy Lietz, your Polymer Clay Tutor, and today on the PCT Product Demo,

00:00:07 –> 00:00:15 I’m gonna show you some really neat custom embossing stamps by the Embossing Die Company

00:00:15 –> 00:00:16 on Etsy.

00:00:16 –> 00:00:24 Now Steve from the Embossing Die Company contacted me and told me about his really neat Embossing

00:00:24 –> 00:00:31 Dies that you can have done in just about any size, I have a tiny, tiny little guy here

00:00:31 –> 00:00:38 that is about a quarter inch by a quarter inch, and a bigger one here that’s about 2

00:00:38 –> 00:00:44 inches by 2 inches with our PCT product… or our PCT logo on there.

00:00:44 –> 00:00:51 And you can get any design you like, any line drawing whether it’s a logo or a drawing or

00:00:51 –> 00:00:56 whatever you want done, and they’re not very expensive, they’re only about $35 to $40 depending

00:00:56 –> 00:00:58 on the size.

00:00:58 –> 00:01:04 But what’s really neat about them is that you can emboss all kinds of materials with

00:01:04 –> 00:01:09 them, you can emboss Polymer Clay which is the whole reason why I’m testing them and

00:01:09 –> 00:01:10 showing them to you.

00:01:10 –> 00:01:17 Here’s the large one, I originally was thinking of using the large one for magnets, but this

00:01:17 –> 00:01:21 is kind of too big, I think if I was going to do a magnet I would get a little bit smaller

00:01:21 –> 00:01:27 one, maybe an inch and a quarter by an inch and a quarter, so here is it embossed into

00:01:27 –> 00:01:34 Polymer Clay, and here’s the tiny one embossed into Polymer Clay, here’s the tiny little

00:01:34 –> 00:01:41 one here, and you can use these for signature stamps and things on the back of your pieces,

00:01:41 –> 00:01:48 I did it on the back of one of my CaBezel pieces here, and it’s a great way to give

00:01:48 –> 00:01:51 a signature look to your piece.

00:01:51 –> 00:01:58 And you can also use them to stamp all kinds of other materials like leather…and he sent

00:01:58 –> 00:02:03 me a couple of samples and I’ll show you how to do the leather in a second, here’s the

00:02:03 –> 00:02:09 big logo done in…its rawhide leather, and so you can think of all kinds of neat things;

00:02:09 –> 00:02:14 luggage tags, tags for your products, all kinds of things.

00:02:14 –> 00:02:24 You can also stamp wax, soap, fondant; ‘cause it’s a food safe plastic, you can do like

00:02:24 –> 00:02:28 sealing wax and all kinds of really neat things with this product.

00:02:28 –> 00:02:33 But let me just show you how easy…and how easy they are to work, I’ve just got a little

00:02:33 –> 00:02:40 sheet of Polymer Clay and you can just press your piece right…your stamp right into it,

00:02:40 –> 00:02:48 and it gives really, really crisp clean lines and does a beautiful job, and of course if

00:02:48 –> 00:02:54 you have a larger one, it will do the larger stamp.

00:02:54 –> 00:02:59 But when you’re stamping leather, one thing I discovered…oh, I’d have to press a little

00:02:59 –> 00:03:05 bit harder into there, but you can see it does a neat job.

00:03:05 –> 00:03:10 But one thing that you could use if you have this machine…the NEVERknead machine, it

00:03:10 –> 00:03:15 is… would be a great way to stamp into the leather, because what he suggests is you take

00:03:15 –> 00:03:21 your stamp…or your leather… you have to use rawhide leather not treated leather, probably

00:03:21 –> 00:03:25 ‘cause it’ll cut… it would cut into the treated leather, but you get your rawhide

00:03:25 –> 00:03:35 leather wet and then you press your stamp into it, and you would need to use…because

00:03:35 –> 00:03:39 there’s quite a bit… you need quite a bit of pressure, you would need to use something

00:03:39 –> 00:03:44 like a vise or a press or something, but the NEVERknead works really well, and I’ll just

00:03:44 –> 00:03:54 show you how that works, I’m just going to set my stamp on to the wet leather, and then

00:03:54 –> 00:04:00 just press down and because this has so much pressure to it, I can do a really nice press

00:04:00 –> 00:04:03 into it, and then look at that.

00:04:03 –> 00:04:10 So you could use this…you could also use it for the larger plate when I was pressing

00:04:10 –> 00:04:17 into it with the Polymer Clay that would be a good idea, it would give nice, even pressure

00:04:17 –> 00:04:22 for the stamp as well, of course, if you don’t have a NEVERknead, you can always just press

00:04:22 –> 00:04:28 on there by hand and press right into it, so I thought I would show you that…here

00:04:28 –> 00:04:31 we go, isn’t that cool?

00:04:31 –> 00:04:35 I should have rolled it out first, but I thought I’d show you that.

00:04:35 –> 00:04:43 You can also stamp into wax, like I was saying, so you just take a heat gun or a blow dryer

00:04:43 –> 00:04:49 and press into the warm wax, I don’t know if the camera will pick up on it, but you

00:04:49 –> 00:04:57 can see a little indent in there from that, and like I said, you can use it on fondant,

00:04:57 –> 00:05:01 all kinds of other products out there, wax seals and stuff.

00:05:01 –> 00:05:10 So check his site out on Etsy, it’s Embossing Die Company and you can get them made in whatever

00:05:10 –> 00:05:17 size you like for custom stamps and for your Polymer Clay Jewelry projects.

00:05:17 –> 00:05:23 Alright so I hope you enjoyed this video, if you do…did let us know about that.

00:05:23 –> 00:05:31 And if you have any other suggestions or ideas for using stamps like this or other products

00:05:31 –> 00:05:35 you’d like me to test, make sure to leave those in the comment section below.

00:05:35 –> 00:05:41 And don’t forget we have a great resource over at PolymerClayTutor.com where you can

00:05:41 –> 00:05:46 use the search box there to get answers to all of your Polymer Clay Questions.

  • John Wall says:

I noticed when you used your NeverKnead machine that the stamp was stuck in the polymer clay. Do you have any recommendations for stamp release?

    • Hi John, a great release you can use is cornstarch. You can put it either on the stamp or the clay itself. You can use water (not with Fimo though because it makes it sticky) or you can use a tiny bit of AmourAll.

  • If we are going to be using the stamps for clay only – do you see an advantage on using the high density plastic over normal rubber stamps?

    • I did a bit of reading after I posted. I gather that the plastic makes a sharper/deeper impression?

      • Yes Lena, sorry for the slow response… but you’re right. The high density plastic makes for a cleaner, sharper impression that can be much more detailed than a regular soft rubber stamp can be.

  • Hi Cindy, Great job on the video……..and what a great idea to use it with the Never Knead press!!! If anyone has any questions about the stamps, feel free to ask anything.
