** This post is an introduction to one of our paid color palettes.
There are some photos that invoke feelings and memories that are difficult to truly understand unless you have been in a similar place yourself. This is one of those photos.
This picture was taken by our daughter Willow from the window of our RV, just as dawn was breaking. We were at the RV Resort in Deer Park, Washington, just North of Spokane. It was our first real night camping in the trailer. We had slept the night before in the trailer at a rest stop on the way into Spokane, but that’s not really the same.
Willow awoke early as the morning sun came in through the tiny window of her bunk. She was so moved by the scenery that she grabbed the camera and shot this picture, right through the window screen.
That morning was the dawn of a new adventure for the whole family. And the feeling was quiet, peaceful and kind of magical. The last few years had been pretty difficult for all of us… with the never ending workload of trying to make a home based business get off the ground… coping with the terminal illness and death of Doug’s Dad… and just managing all the stuff that comes along with trying to raise a happy and healthy family in today’s hectic world. Let’s just say, getting out and taking our business on the road for our first PcT Roadtrip, was a welcome diversion!
At that moment, at the crack of dawn… Willow with her camera taking pictures of the sunrise… Fisher peacefully sleeping in the bunk below… Doug putting on a pot of coffee… and myself crawling out of my bed in my pajamas to gaze out the window at the early morning sky… all was good, calm and exciting in the world.
Just looking at this picture right now, takes me back to all I felt in that very moment. Isn’t it amazing how a photo can do that?
I hope you enjoy this fun Fall 2013 color palette for the Vol-065-A recipe series!
Sunrise is a soft, gray orange shade that rims the edges of the clouds in the dawn sky. Crack of Dawn is the darker tan of the shadows, where the sun has not yet burst through the cracks. Early Morn is the gray blue of the early morning sky, as it struggles to wake from its deep slumber. And Cup of Joe is the dark brown black of the tree silhouettes and the fresh brewed coffee in our mugs.

Not surprising… you so often post palettes of what I am doing currently!! Love that… the colors are perfect.

You show us how to look at a thing with fresh perspective. Thanks Cindy. Some of those colours and shapes were inspiring and opened up lots of possibilities in my mind. Fantastic stuff! Keep it up!

I began beading about 7 years ago with a love for natural stone beads and jewelry making. I recently developed an interest in polymer clay as a way to enhance my jewelry designs. The versatility of polymer clay and the endless possibilities for color blends and designs are truly unique to this medium. I have also been very fortunate to find talented polymer clay artists such as Cindy Lietz who graciously share their skills by teaching new artists the basics and beyond to make learning new techniques fun and easy. I look forward to sitting at my computer to see the video tutorial and color recipes, and refer back to the tutorials often when starting new projects. My inventory of polymer clay and clay tools are quickly growing to match my bead collection!

Hi Cindy,
I just purchased a bunch of the back issues and can’t wait to go watch the videos and print off the color recipes and give them a try.
Thanks so much. Just love your videos. They are so helpful.
Vicki
Beautiful cane and jewelry!!! and a great lead in to where I want to go with some projects this fall. I do have a general question – is there an easy way to give a color the pearl effect without changing the color? I know I can use either pearl or one of the metallic to combine with a color, but that changes things. I have tried using some of the pearl powders, but they seem messy and take a fair amount to notice a difference. I quickly looked through the back issues, but I didn’t find anything. I may be blind…..
Thanks,
Beth
Well Beth, your suggests are pretty much the two things I would have said to get a pearl color. So I am not sure what else I could add. You may just need to settle for either solution.
Hi Beth! Have a little “mad scientist” in me, and grew up hunting the abundant rocks and minerals in the Northeast, still do. Amazes me what you can still find in a quarry dump pile worth some serious change with the permission of the owner.
I collected mica everywhere because it came in “booked sheets” embedded in the pegmatite granite. Then I moved and got access to a wonderful newly blown quarry and found huge quartz and felspar crystals along with basketball sized pure mica deposits. I kept one, and donated the bigger to the local children room in the library,
Now, if you wear googles and a good mask, and place a piece of mica in a double plastic bag and beat it a few times you get some glorious flakes. Then if you take the flakes and pulse them in a Black and Dexter coffee grinder you quickly get glitter.
If it’s both the reflective quality and the mica shift that attracts you to this project, the trick I have found is to just keep the color intensity steady and imbed the clay with about half as much with the mica. You should come out with an awesome piece of clay…but remember you want the final mica bits not to over whelm the other colors.
Sometimes I just add the same amount to the other colors just to give that that same glint.
Even if you use the larger flakes, once baked, the finish is a breeze. I use glass for dust free storage, so all of the caps have my signature, lol. It is the coolest thing to see them lit up in the morning (faux jasper and awesome) and at nite, in the kitchen, the condiments and spices in more red, green and blue tunes. I only buy the round salsa jars now, then let the color/design to the pre owners specs, and made them coordinated desk displays, spice storage, banks for their kids, etc. Men like the faux wood caps like crazy especially if you embed a logo or their initial. Go figure.
LOL, my grandfather used to call it “storing his doo-dads!” Sadly this seems to be an inheritabe trait.
Thank you everyone for your kind words!! I really appreciate them……..I will be lurking for a while, but I WILL be here!!
Cindy, love this palette! The colors are so warm and just right for Fall.
Hope your operation is a success Patt W. Will be thinking of you. I am staying with my daughter who has an old house in the South of France and really enjoying such a different way of life. The sunsets are spectacular so this palette will forever remind me of the time spent with my daughter who is helping me build happy memories after a stressful few sad months. ….Cheers xx………
Elaine, your sabbatical in France with your daughter sounds like just what your heart needed. You have been through so much this past year. I hope that you are sitting in the warm sun with a glass of wine, a plate of cheese and a lovely little notebook, scrolling away some lyrical words of poetry. I picture myself sitting right beside you, though I’m got a little tray in my lap and I’m making beads. Take care my friend!
Cindy,
You would love it here at my daughter’s house
Which is very very old
It has no central heating
But we were never cold!
Sitting down with our glasses of “Vino”
With cheeses and olives too
The sun shone from a cloudless sky, so very very blue.
Her garden is so beautiful with flowers of every kind
and so many types of fruit trees, that you would wish to find.
We ate the figs fresh from the branch, picked tomatoes and peppers red.
We walked for many a magical mile
Until it was time for bed.
Driving over to Italy to visit a market town
With pasta and pizza at lunchtime
And shopping that weighed us down.
We drove to Monte Carlo, Nice and Cannes as well
I sat in the back in my floppy hat,
Pretending that I was a “Swell”.
Oh! what an elegant time we had
Dressed up to the “nines”
But I will treasure most the memories of the family I hold most dear.
And hopefully God willing
Will visit again next year.
So descriptive ! I can feel the sunshine and love the “floppy hat”…………..Thanks for sharing. Hugs…….
Beautiful poem Elaine! I’m sitting in that chair enjoying a glass of vino right now in my mind… right down to the floppy hat!
Beautiful colors, Stunning!
October is coming -October is coming. Finally the end of summer. Here in Arizona we have summer for about 6 months -and it is hot. So when October is here, it means cooler days and nights. Open the windows and let the cool air in.

Patt,
Good luck with your hip surgery. Had mine August of 2012. It’s kind of a long recovery but worth everything that you go through to be able to walk again. Afterward its like a whole new life! Cindy’s tutorials kept me going before and after surgery. Think I’ll be with her for a long time too. :)
Hi Cindy!
Thanks for all your beautiful color palettes and the videos. I’ve been showing off about 2 dozen beads and other things that I’ve made with the Aurora Technique with my girlfriends at work, and they just LOVE them! Maybe they’ll get tired of me showing off all the time, and join your classes themselves!
Naomi &:-)
Thank you Naomi! I appreciate your kind words. That is very exciting about your Aurora Beads being such a hit. Glad you are having so much fun with the tutorials!
Sherry I really appreciate you saying that. I feel the same way about this site. It is a source of inspiration for me as well, and a place to learn from each other. When I need to sit down a write a post, I try and write in a way that connects to you guys and in doing so, I get the chance to connect to myself (if that makes sense).
Sometimes I think us woman spend so much time and effort doing for others and not enough time taking care of ourselves and expressing our creativity and passions. This place helps me to do that, just as much as it does for you guys.
I am grateful to have kind, generous and creative souls like you here, being part of this world. Thank you so much for allowing me to be part of your creative journey and sharing in mine!
Thank you for sharing Willow’s lovely photo with us. I love the stories and the glimpse of private times you treat us to Cindy—all of this just makes this cozy site The place to come to for many many reasons. You are my polymer clay inspiration, what ever mood I’m in creating, learning, research…I find it here from you or from one of our generous members that take time to help each other
