With Valentine's Day fast approaching, now is the time to be making your heart shaped beads and sweetheart pendants. Whether you make polymer clay jewelry for yourself, for gift giving or for selling at an Etsy store, you had better get a move on. Today’s photo is of my latest Valentine's Jewelry project… a winged heart pendant.
I had originally planned for this pendant to be a simple heart shaped bead, embellished with a just a few polymer clay cane slices. But as I dug through my collection of polymer clay canes, I came across a monarch butterfly wing cane from a while back, and decided to give this piece some wings.
Well one thing led to another, and I ended up with what you see in the photo, complete with a tiny brass key. There are so many obvious symbolisms here that I have chosen not to name the pendant. It has just the right amount of quirkiness to really appeal to me… so I’ll probably end up keeping it for myself.

Do try polymer clay soon. It is fun and can be used in a lot of your beaded designs. Making your own beads is one way to separate your designs from others and give it your own unique voice that no one can ever copy exactly.

Thanks Cindy for your nice comment. It’s always good to have encouragement. I’m crazy about beads but I admire your work with polymer and I find your blog wonderful. As soon as I shall begin the polymer work ( we can make such nice things with this) I’m sure that I’ll find a great help with your advise.
I like your idea for using Studio Sculpey for the wings Lupe. Sounds cool! I’m glad you’re trying new things this year. It is always good to spread your own wings every once in awhile!
I like the idea of the wings on the heart. I wonder how it look like if you were to use the Studio Sculpey clay to make the wings. It would give a velvety look and feel, but I haven’t tried using the Studio Sculpey for butterfly wings yet… have you? I will have to try that… or try a lace cane as well. I usually do simple hearts and add some left over Bull’s eye cane or add leaves to them, but I would like to add some dimension to mine, so I like your idea.
I am trying to think outside the box this year, one of my resolutions this year… trying to be a little more daring with the bling. Thanks for sharing your ideas with us.

We’ve given up dating for 9 months to focus on G-d for that time, but maybe I’ll have to do some beads to remember these 9 months where He had my whole heart. Keep up the great work.
