Just finished watching the Zebra tut. Awesome!! I can see why you warned us that it is more challenging than one would think. This is one of those that I will try the first time in front of the computer. I just love that I can do that – watch a step, pause the video, try the step, watch the step again after I screw it up, try the step again, etc. etc. etc. Thanks, Cindy and Doug for my next learning opportunity.

@Chaz: Wow, can’t wait to see your ‘way-out’ rainbow Zebra! I saw a cane like that on Flickr…it was fabulous, just as I have a feeling yours will be! I’ll be looking out for those photos…yay! Peace, Kat
@Cheryl: I know what you mean…I was really upset over my last group of white beads — or should I say ‘ivory’! I didn’t bury them in cornstarch, & the clay was a few years old…so I blamed my color result on that. Still, it’s surprising when your white beads come out so “un-white” — you don’t notice it as much in blends & other techniques. I guess it’s the contrast between black and white that’s so telling. Good thing Premo will be starting out whiter now!

Great work and beautiful pieces. I have experimented with the zebra cane, but I am going way out and making it rainbow. I make pride jewelery and every tutorial Cindy presents to us I try to work in rainbow colors. will try to get some pics soon. PEACE CHAZ
@Sue- Have to try that out. i would like a white or black and white bead to really look white.
@Cheryl, Phaedrakat: The Premo White that I have in the new-style packaging (mostly clear with a wave thing on the front) is much whiter than the Premo White I have in the old-style packaging. The newer stuff is pretty close to Kato White, actually, which is probably good news for people who don’t like really firm clay. :)
@ kat – i used Premo white and it just seems to have an off-white rather than a pure white look. I just realised I haven’t done anything just white or black and white and the zebra beads were the first so I was a bit put off with the off white color.
@Cheryl: Wow, I haven’t been to your blog lately…hadn’t seen that new photo yet. Jocelyn was right…ditto all she said! The beads in that photo are a tribute to all the wonderful tutorials you’ve learned here from our fabulous Polymer Clay Tutor. Of course, you made those beauties — what a creative artist!
Congratulations on a great-looking blog. I remember your comments…you had a lot of questions…lots of trial & error involved. You should be very proud of yourself — your persistence really paid off!
Re: wanting ‘whiter’ Zebra…I assume you’ve already been careful baking, tenting your beads, burying in cornstarch, watching the temp., etc.? What about your oven…is it clean? What kind of clay are you using? I don’t know first hand…but several people (including ‘our’ Sue F. — *smiles*) have mentioned Kato white is more ‘pure white’ than Premo/Fimo. I love using Premo, but I plan to buy Kato for an upcoming project…using only black & white. I’m curious to see just how ‘white’…white can be! :D
Cheryl, I love your blog site, that first picture of all the beads just takes my breath away. Sure have mastered all the stuff presented here, my congrats! Your finishing is superb.
After sanding and buffing my zebra cane beads they don’t seem too bad. I would like them to be whiter – tried bleach too. Will try this cane again as I love black and white together.
Great job everyone! I was never interested in anything “animal print” until I started seeing what you all had made and were posting.. Now both animal print tuts are almost at the top of my list! Beautiful work, all!
@Maria: I join the others in asking you to post! I’m just starting so my work is far from professional quality! No one is here to judge you, only to give encouragement, and once you make that first post it becomes much easier! I bet you’re like so many others, where you find the flaws in what you’ve made. When you post and receive so many words of encouragement it helps you to see that what you’ve made isn’t near as bad as you think!
Beautiful work, everyone! I know Cindy must be so proud that her ‘Tutorees’ have created such beautiful jewelry. I love watching her tutorials…they’re so amazing. When I see everyone take the tute and make gorgeous projects…it’s so inspirational! This is the tute I requested and begged Cindy to teach (too many times, I’m sure…) As soon as I’m able to get my clay out again, this will be the one I start with…
Everyone did a wonderful job. I’ve got to give it a try soon. :)
I’ve always loved black and white so Cindy’s zebra cane really excited me. I still haven’t had time to try it yet. :(

Oh, Maria – You are probably just holding back so you can blow our socks off when you do post a photo. I just know you do fine work … so let us see it. And when you post something on Cindy’s facebook with a link to her tutorial you get entered in a contest to win some of Cindy’s beads. Now isn’t that incentive enough?!
Yep! these are all sweet! I thought I would have time to get to try this while recovering from surgery but time is flying by! This tute is so inviting!

@Elizabeth – at least you tried to make it! I am so backlogged with projects I want to do that I haven’t even attempted it yet! Also, I need to get my courage together to post some if my work…
Gotta say-some people just get it right. Beautiful pieces! My poor little zebra (cane) came out looking like it was covered in little black worms. Just add “zebra cane challenged” to my many others (sigh). I’m inspired to try again having seen these beauties.

Gotta say, though, that the pair of narrow bangles in the middle of the left column is my particular favourite… Absolutely gorgeous! :D
