In this video, I will share with you the new Premo Sculpey Colors for 2015.
The 2 new regular colors in the Premo line are Wisteria and Periwinkle. Wisteria is a soft Fuchsia based Purple… and Periwinkle is a pretty Purple-y Blue. There is no color shift between baked and unbaked samples of these clays.
Coincidently, two other Premo Sculpey colors have been discontinued… Denim and Navy. I can’t help but wonder if this is an “out-with-the-old-and-in-with-the-new” strategy from Polyform.
There are also 2 new Pearl clays, that are very lovely. Sunset Pearl is a bright Coral Pearl color, and Graphite Pearl is a silvery Gray-Black Pearl… just like pencil graphite. These clays have high mica particle content and are good using with mica shift techniques.
Also, there are 3 new glitter clays. Rose Gold Glitter, White Gold Glitter and Yellow Gold Glitter. They are all somewhat translucent based clays with silver and gold glitters in them, each with a different base color. Rose Gold is a Coppery base, very similar to the man-made gemstone called Goldstone. White Gold Glitter has an Old Hollywood look of vintage Silver leaf. And Yellow Gold Glitter has a golden shimmer that is very pretty. They can be mixed in different combinations to create Champagne Gold and other pretty metallic derivatives. These clays look even more metallic when they are baked, than what they look like in the package.
Lastly, 1 new color, which actually should be in a Faux Stone category, is the new Opal. This is a translucent clay mixed with large flake Opalescent flakes that is translucent when baked. (You can easily make this clay yourself, using Premo White Translucent clay and Iridescent Glitter Flakes, often known as Buffalo Snow.) Because the large flakes tend to “stick out” when you cut this “color” into shapes, it is not suited for cane making. The protrusions would leave drag marks in the cane when slicing through it. However, this new Opal clay is suited for making beads and cabochons… as well as for doing inlay techniques.
There are several new products by Sculpey for 2015 which I will share with you in upcoming videos, including the new Colored Liquid Polymer Clays – Silver and Gold.
00:00:03 –> 00:00:07 Hi guys, its Cindy Lietz, your Polymer Clay Tutor, and today’s PcT Product Demo, we’re
00:00:07 –> 00:00:09 talking about the new Premo!
00:00:09 –> 00:00:13 Sculpey colors for 2015.
00:00:13 –> 00:00:17 Now it’s always fun when a company comes out with new Polymer Clay colors, and this year
00:00:17 –> 00:00:20 is really great, the colors are beautiful.
00:00:20 –> 00:00:21 So we’ve got…
00:00:21 –> 00:00:24 I’m gonna show you the different ones that have come out, and then I’m gonna show you
00:00:24 –> 00:00:25 samples of them…
00:00:25 –> 00:00:26 what they look like.
00:00:26 –> 00:00:28 Now one of the first colors…
00:00:28 –> 00:00:35 I alluded to this in one of my previous videos, this color is called Wisteria, and it is a
00:00:35 –> 00:00:39 really pretty soft Purple color, and it is Premo!
00:00:39 –> 00:00:40 Sculpey.
00:00:40 –> 00:00:49 The next new color is called Periwinkle, and it is a soft kind of Purple-y Blue, and it’s
00:00:49 –> 00:00:51 a real beauty as well.
00:00:51 –> 00:00:58 Now the other ones are… there’s 2 new Pearls in the line, and this one is gorgeous, it’s
00:00:58 –> 00:01:05 called Sunset Pearl, and it is quite a Coral kind of Pearl color, and I’ll show you samples
00:01:05 –> 00:01:07 of them in a second.
00:01:07 –> 00:01:16 The other new Pearl color, it is called Graphite Pearl, which is a Black/ Gray kind of Pearl
00:01:16 –> 00:01:20 color with lots of Mica powders and stuff in it.
00:01:20 –> 00:01:30 Now there’s also 3 new metallic…or Glitter Golds, so this is called Rose Gold Glitter
00:01:30 –> 00:01:39 and it has got kind of a Coppery base color to it, and then it’s got both Silver and Gold
00:01:39 –> 00:01:44 sparkles in it, so it has a real…you know I think of this color… a lot… to be very
00:01:44 –> 00:01:51 similar to Goldstone, if you’ve seen that man-made gemstone, and it’s very similar to
00:01:51 –> 00:01:53 that, it’s very pretty.
00:01:53 –> 00:02:00 The next one is White Gold Glitter, which is basically a Silvery glitter color with…I
00:02:00 –> 00:02:08 mean a Silvery base color with Gold and Silver glitter in it.
00:02:08 –> 00:02:13 And this one is called Yellow Gold Glitter, same…along the same lines… and they all
00:02:13 –> 00:02:18 basically have a similar colored glitter in it, but the bases are different, so this one’s
00:02:18 –> 00:02:22 more of a Yellow-toned one.
00:02:22 –> 00:02:28 And there is a brand new color, called…well it is a translucent clay with really large
00:02:28 –> 00:02:32 flakes in it and it’s called Opal, and it’s very pretty.
00:02:32 –> 00:02:37 So let me just show you samples of the colors here, now I’ve…on the top side of each
00:02:37 –> 00:02:44 one of these I’ve got a raw piece of clay…so this is raw and this is baked of the same
00:02:44 –> 00:02:49 color, and you can see here… this is the new Periwinkle color, there’s just no color
00:02:49 –> 00:02:54 shift there at all, it’s very, very little, if anything it just slightly, slightly gets
00:02:54 –> 00:03:01 darker but it’s very little color shift after baking, same goes for the Wisteria, there’s
00:03:01 –> 00:03:05 very little color shift there either after baking.
00:03:05 –> 00:03:11 This is the new Sunset Pearl, this is the raw this is the baked, and you can see in
00:03:11 –> 00:03:16 the baked one there is no color shift at all but you can really see the Pearl flakes in
00:03:16 –> 00:03:22 there or little speckles, and it’s very pretty, these ones look beautiful with the other Pearl
00:03:22 –> 00:03:24 colors that are out there.
00:03:24 –> 00:03:32 This is the Graphite Pearl and it’s the same sort of thing, it has kind of a Silvery…a
00:03:32 –> 00:03:37 Silvery sparkle to it, but then the base is quite Black so you get this… it looks like
00:03:37 –> 00:03:38 Graphite pencil.
00:03:38 –> 00:03:43 Now this here is the Opal, now you will see a difference…let me get something here to
00:03:43 –> 00:03:48 lift this up, you will see a big difference here when you bake them, this is the Opal
00:03:48 –> 00:03:55 raw and this is the Opal baked, it becomes quite translucent, it looks quite opaque and
00:03:55 –> 00:04:00 White when it’s unbaked and then once it’s baked, it has quite a bit of translucency
00:04:00 –> 00:04:03 to it and you get to see all the layers.
00:04:03 –> 00:04:08 Now I don’t know whether or not Doug will be able to pick it up in the camera, but it’s
00:04:08 –> 00:04:14 got all these rainbow-y layers that are picked up by the flakes, I’m gonna show you in a
00:04:14 –> 00:04:20 second how you could actually make some of this on your own too using Translucent Clay.
00:04:20 –> 00:04:27 Now there are a couple of things about the Opal clay, because it has large flakes…you
00:04:27 –> 00:04:33 can see, I cut this out with just a square cookie cutter, but see how it sticks out past
00:04:33 –> 00:04:39 the edge here, it’s because the flakes are so large, so it would not be a very good one
00:04:39 –> 00:04:44 for a cane because if you tried to cut through it, the flakes would just grab on to the knife
00:04:44 –> 00:04:49 and push through and kinda tear, so it’s not a good one…actually most of the larger glitters
00:04:49 –> 00:04:56 aren’t good for canes anyways, but this is not good for canes, but it is for beads and
00:04:56 –> 00:05:05 thin layers…or, what do you call them, oh, I’ll have to think of it… inlays, that’s
00:05:05 –> 00:05:07 what I mean, you could use this for inlays and stuff.
00:05:07 –> 00:05:12 I have not sanded and buffed this, I’ve just left it straight from the oven, and it
00:05:12 –> 00:05:19 still…it has a beautiful look to it.Now, it has…basically, it is a White Translucent
00:05:19 –> 00:05:20 Premo!
00:05:20 –> 00:05:27 Clay with flakes like this, the Buffalo Snowflakes, you get them at Christmas time, they’re meant
00:05:27 –> 00:05:35 for decorating…you know your Christmas displays, but they’re the large flake, iridescent flakes,
00:05:35 –> 00:05:39 you could mix those right…if you couldn’t find Opal clay, you could mix this into the
00:05:39 –> 00:05:42 Translucent Clay and you would get exactly the same product.
00:05:42 –> 00:05:47 Now I’m sure they won’t mind me telling you that because it costs the same thing, it costs
00:05:47 –> 00:05:53 the same amount for you to buy the Opal clay with it mixed in or to buy the Translucent
00:05:53 –> 00:05:59 Clay on its own, so it’s not like I’m really taking anything away from them by telling
00:05:59 –> 00:06:00 you that.
00:06:00 –> 00:06:10 Now also…okay so the glitters, here’s the Rose Glitter…the Rose Gold Glitter clay
00:06:10 –> 00:06:18 and there is… you will be able to tell the difference between the baked and the unbaked,
00:06:18 –> 00:06:23 because there’s kind of a translucent base in these ones as well, the sparkle really
00:06:23 –> 00:06:29 shows up a lot better once it’s baked, it’s there…you can see it there in the raw, but
00:06:29 –> 00:06:40 it has a real wonderful almost old Hollywood kind of Gold Leaf-y kinda look to it, now
00:06:40 –> 00:06:45 this is the White Gold glitter, and it has a Silvery look of course.
00:06:45 –> 00:06:51 The Rose Gold Glitter has, you know, this Coppery Rose Gold look to it, and then the
00:06:51 –> 00:06:58 Gold here is kind of an almost… it’s Yellow Gold glitter, it has kind of a Yellow base
00:06:58 –> 00:07:01 to it but it also has a bit of a Champagne look.
00:07:01 –> 00:07:06 They look beautiful mixed together by the way, and you can really change the tints of
00:07:06 –> 00:07:10 them, if you mix these two together, you get a beautiful mix, if you mix these two together,
00:07:10 –> 00:07:15 you get quite a Champagne mix, so there’s a lot of beautiful mixes and things that you
00:07:15 –> 00:07:17 can get with these new products.
00:07:17 –> 00:07:22 So I hope you enjoyed that, there are several new products that I’m going to be showing
00:07:22 –> 00:07:30 you over the course of the next while including some new liquid…these are Colored Liquid
00:07:30 –> 00:07:35 Sculpey, so this is Silver and Gold, which I’ll show you in another video some time,
00:07:35 –> 00:07:38 and it’s an exciting product as well, alright?
00:07:38 –> 00:07:42 Oh, and before I go, I should tell you that because of these new products that have come
00:07:42 –> 00:07:50 out, there were 2 colors that were discontinued, that was Denim and Navy, which is too bad
00:07:50 –> 00:07:53 because I really enjoyed using these clays.
00:07:53 –> 00:07:58 But I guess they needed room on the shelves in stores like Michaels and that kind of thing,
00:07:58 –> 00:08:04 and so when they brought in the new Wisteria and the new Periwinkle, they probably bumped
00:08:04 –> 00:08:05 out those two Blues.
00:08:05 –> 00:08:08 Alright, I just thought I’d let you know that, so if there’s still some out there, and you
00:08:08 –> 00:08:13 really love that color, I’d grab it right away ‘cause they won’t be around, alright?
00:08:13 –> 00:08:16 So if you liked this video, do let us know.
00:08:16 –> 00:08:23 And if you have got a product you would like me to test, an idea you want me to share,
00:08:23 –> 00:08:29 something that you don’t quite understand, make sure to let us know about that.
00:08:29 –> 00:08:34 There is also a pretty good chance we’ve done a video on the topic if you are looking for
00:08:34 –> 00:08:39 answers for Polymer Clay because we have done hundreds and hundreds of videos, so make sure
00:08:39 –> 00:08:43 to check through what we’ve done and see if you can find the answer in there too, and
00:08:43 –> 00:08:48 if you can’t find it, leave a suggestion in the comment section below, alright?
00:08:48 –> 00:08:49 So we’ll see you next time and bye for now.

Hey, Cindy, thanks very much for this video. I have been wondering what the new Opal actually looked like; I have only been able to see it in the package to this point. I really love the look of the new Pearls and metallic Glitters. Now I wait, to see whether the Michaels in Spruce Grove or Stony Plain get them in or not – they don’t carry a full line by any means – or whether I will have to wait for the fall to be able to mail order them. ;(
It is really frustrating when Sculpey discontinues colours such as Denim and Navy. I hoard recipes, and now anything with those colours in will be obsolete. I know that you are really busy at the moment, but is it possible that in the future you might be able to have a go at devising replacement recipes for these two colours (and Sea Foam Green)? Denim I can probably get close to, but I really don’t have any idea where to start with trying to re-create Navy.
And I was just in Edmonton yesterday! I could have whipped into Michaels and bought all that they had. Pooh bear!
Hi Doreen, Yeah the Opal looks a lot different when you use it, than it does in the package. Hopefully your stores will start carrying the new colors… I haven’t seen them in my local Michaels yet. You may just need to wait till Fall to get your hands on some alright.
In regards to fixing the old recipes, Like I said to Dixie Ann above I have been working on that… It has been a huge job fixing all the colors that I could fix… the ones with Sea Green, Navy and Denim have been reworked, but a few recipes had to be discontinued all together because the colors it would take to mix the alternative recipes are also no longer available. There will be a charge for the new recipe cards we are putting together though (Beautiful new cards and photos in a pdf format), so if you can get your hands on some of the old clay colors, you may want to use them to mix up the recipes you have now, until you can’t get the colors at all anymore. I am sure it will take a while before everyone runs out of stock on those colors.
Hi Cindy,
I love all the new colors and purchased all of them. Another product I have been purchasing a lot of is stamps. I am wondering if I use my stamps in the projects I intend on selling, is that breaking dome copyright rule?
Hi Janis, Most companies allow you to use the stamps to make something that you are going to sell, but won’t allow you to use the design to make more stamps with. You can contact the company or try and find their ‘Angel Policy” if you are worried about copyright issues.
Hi Cindy, I love all the new colors and purchased them from Sunnyday Crafts as soon as they were available. I am really going to miss the Navy premo. I wasn’t too keen on the denim. I haven’t used all of them yet so was happy to see you had a video on them today. Thanks for all the pro’s and con’s you voiced here on the new colors. So good to hear your comments on these new products.
Navy is pretty simple to replace… Sculpey’s replacement recipes is something like 20 parts Ultramarine Blue and 1 part Black… though I have found the amount of Black has to be adjusted up or down depending on what is best, when you are trying to fix a recipe that has Navy in it. I have just spent the last two weeks repairing old recipes with Denim and Navy in them. Denim was by far the hardest to fix… since it is such a complex color. The new fixed recipes will only be available when the new color recipe cards come out. Which will be a while yet… since it is a HUGE project.
Hi Cindy!
So nice that you guys still have videos coming out even though you are so busy with the new improved website!
My idea for a future tutorial is the tear away technique created by Gwen Gibson. I’ve been able to find books with the how to’s but it’s so much easier to learn from a video. Plus I can look forward to seeing how to use the technique in a project. Thanks for everything you do!
Hi Karen I believe that is the same technique that is also known as Etching Polymer Clay. I already have a tutorial on that if you are interested. Not sure how Gwen does it but it is a fairly simple technique to do.
Super Cindy! Yet another tute to add to my Must Have list. Thanks!
Karen
No more Denim already? I’ll have to look for the new colors tomorrow as long as we’re already at the craft store.
I love the look of the opal clay, so I think I’ll mix some up this afternoon. Seems like it’d be easier to tint for fire or other colored opals before adding the flakes. I’ll try to remember to take notes.
P.S. If anybody has opals on the brain but no Buffalo snow, I’m happy to send some to you.
Ooh, how pretty would opal buttons be? Would they hold up with wear? Or would the inclusions cause problems? Maybe an opal shawl pin… I’ll have to try with and without a base layer and see what happens.
That is a very sweet off Katie! I have seen Christmas stuff in Costco already… so it won’t be too long before it will be in the stores again, but it is very kind of you to offer some of yours just in case. :) As far as Opal buttons, holding up… I can’t see it being much of a problem is they are thick enough… though as always, it wouldn’t hurt to test it to be sure!
Jo-ann’s let me down on Saturday. No new colors yet :(
Opal trials are still in progress. Three attempts were duds, and one maybe so far. Haven’t cured the last trial yet.
I’m so glad I went on a blue buying spree today! However, our stores still do not have the new colors, and I feel like the kid who asks “how long till Christmas?”. Since ordering them during the Summer months is just not a great idea, I feel like I may be waiting a while.
I’m sorry to see navy discontinued. I’ve enjoyed using it. Seems like it hasn’t been around all that long. (?) I do like the new colors thought, especially the periwinkle; and sunset pearl and I can see me using that graphite pearl all the time.
Question for anyone who has used the new glitters. Are those mica clays with glitter added or just glitter.
Thanks for the demo Cindy! You’re so on top of things!
Hi Dawn,
None of the glitter clays are mica based. I watched the video and went to take a look at the White Gold Glitter (my favorite!) on my work table. As Cindy says, it seems to be a translucent based clay with lots and lots of glitter mixed in. Kind of like the Twinkle Twinkle or Blue glitter that Premo carries but with a LOT more glitter.
Hope that helps!
Thanks much Krithika!
I love the new glitter clay, especially when used in marbled sheets, where it shows up nicely in contrast with other solid colored clay. The effect in sunlight when covered with resin is really spectacular!
I’d love a demo of the new templates. I bought the two sets available and have had some success with them, but my clay sheet stretches a little while I cut and distorts the shape. Any tips on that would be great! I’m also excited about the colored liquid clay, it looks like it’ll lend itself nicely to faux lampwork beads.
Hi Cindy,
I used the dark blue glitter Premo about 6 months ago and I’m still trying to get it out of my pasta machine. I think it is all gone after several through cleanings and suddenly it shows up again and I have to pick it out. I find this very annoying and I don’t want to have to buy another machine just for glitter. What do you do?
Thanks, Dulany
