Video #208: “Wow! Very cool Cindy, and so beautiful. I love feathers!” ~Maureen-G

** This post is an introduction to one of our paid tutorials.

My love affair with Peacock feathers goes way back. It was on a trip to the zoo as a young child that I first got to see a Peacock strut its amazing plumage. The shimmering colors and the dazzling eyes of the feathers were thrilling for me to behold.

Then later as a teen, my family and I stayed with a friend in Kauai where Peacocks roamed freely around the property. It was fun to be woken each morning by the loud calls of these glorious birds beginning their day.

Much later, when Doug and I got married in his parent's gorgeous, antique decor party barn, the real peacocks roaming out back were a perfect fit! I just had to incorporate their glorious feathers into the theme of our wedding! My bridesmaids carried peacock feather bouquets and the guys wore peacock feather boutonnieres. I even chose a glimmering metallic peacock colored fabric for the bridesmaids dresses. Sorry girls… it was the 80s after all, LOL!

Knowing that I loved Peacock Feathers, my Mom gave me a gorgeous hand mirror, made of leaded glass and real peacock feathers. I still love and treasure it as much today as when she had given it to me more than 20 years ago.

So… when Premo came out with its new Premo Accents clay in Peacock Pearl, I just HAD to make a Peacock Cane with it!

Fabulous tutorial Cindy! The colour blends are just gorgeous.

WOW, WOW, WOW! We use peacock feathers at Christmas time, and I have had a pack of six clear balls for some time, not knowing what I wanted to do with them. Now I know, I will layer these with cane slices around the top near the cap.

Cindy, all I can say is WOW! I love this cane!

    Hi Cindy,

I’m so glad that I’ve found you on the internet. Your tutorials are so happy, clear and complete. I’m an advanced beginner in the Netherlands and since 2 months I love polymer clay. I was using cernit and a bit of Fimo but I’m really in love with the Premo pearl clay since I have seen your tuts (the peacockcane for example).

    I have a nice day.

Wanted to say thank you, Cindy. Your tutorials are amazing. Me and cane making usually don’t work. Lol I wanted a peacock cane so bad. I just wasn’t happy with the peacock designs form other artists. Too plain. I loved that yours was the new pearl colors. My favorite colors. I love Premo. I posted some pics on facebook. Thank you my teacher. Hope I made you proud.

    • I saw your pics on Facebook Kimberly. Beautiful work. It is wonderful to see that you are not just watching the tutorials… but that you are actually DOING them too. Keep up the great work. I am so proud of you!

    Hi Cindy,

Is there any chance you will make the videos available for down load or as DVD?

    Thank you
    Stephanie

    • @Natalie H: Hopefully I understand you… For the first question, yes it doesn’t matter that much if they are close together. Just try and match what I do in the video best you can, but don’t worry too much about being perfect. For the second question, roll that one out at the same thickness as the first blend. Hopefully that clears things up. As far as where to get the new colors, check online, there are tons of places that have stocked the new colors. Hopefully they will be in your local stores soon though. Most locations seem to have them now.

@Stephanie Johnston: Yes! We hope to have a downloadable option for you soon. Stay tuned!

I just found your site and am so happy I did. Great info for a newbie like me. Looking forward to browsing everything I learn here. I especially love the colors of the peacock. Great video there… Thank you

  • Natalie H says:

    Hi Cindy
I too love the look of peacock feathers. In part one of the peacock feather with the 2 part blend… it seems that it is not that important at that point to make sure the folds of clay are close together.. am I correct? When doing the second tear drop blend you did not say what thickness this blend is before you reduce it to fit into the V of the first blend?

Where can I get the new colors? My local ACMoore and Micheals do not carry it yet.

  • Goodness, gracious…this is proving to be a long and most interesting thread. Proabably one of the longest we have here, right?

Think you nailed this one, Cin.

    Thanks!

  • Barbara L says:

@Pollyana-That’s the prob isn’t it? You buy dog food, cat food, fish food, then it’s a question of buying people food or clay supplies!

@Cindy-This is probably the most beautiful and useful cane I’ve ever seen. I can’t wait for tomorrow when my new clay and the second half of the video show up!!

    • Rebecca (Becky) Chisenhall says:

@Barbara L: Hey, I am with you gals. First dog food, cat food/litter, then my food if any money left, then clay :( Of course, if I didn’t buy the dog and cat food first, they would probably eat me!

  • pollyanna says:
