- Polyform sent me a sample box of their new products for 2013, and I thought I’d start with introducing to you the new colors in their Premo Sculpey Polymer Clay line.
- There are two new Premo Accents colors and one new regular Premo color.
- Twinkle Twinkle 5540 Premo Sculpey Accents: A black clay with gold and silver glitter in it.
- Green Glitter 5550 Premo Sculpey Accents: A green clay with an iridescent glitter in it.
- Jungle – 5535 Premo Sculpey: This one is my favorite. It is a darker, tropical type green with a little more blue in it than the other greens that are already in the Premo Sculpey line. I think many of you will really like this green. Green can be a tricky color to mix… it can often end up looking muddy.

00:00:32 –> 00:00:41 are called Twinkle, Twinkle and Green Glitter, now Twinkle, Twinkle is a Black color that
00:00:41 –> 00:00:50 has Gold and Silver sparkle in it, and it is quite pretty, I think lots of people will
00:00:50 –> 00:00:52 really enjoy that color.
00:00:52 –> 00:01:00 Now the Green Glitter is Green with glitter…surprise, surprise, and the glitter in it is a little
00:01:00 –> 00:01:07 bit different, it’s a more of an iridescent rainbow-y kinda glitter, which is really pretty.
00:01:07 –> 00:01:15 But my favorite of the 3 new ones are…is called Jungle, now it is a new Green that
00:01:15 –> 00:01:21 is quite a tropical looking Green and different than any of the other Greens in their previous
00:01:21 –> 00:01:27 Green line, now here are some of the older Premo! colors…Green, and you’ll see that
00:01:27 –> 00:01:36 it’s quite a bit different, it’s darker and it has a lot more Blue in it than the previous
00:01:36 –> 00:01:40 Greens do, and you know Green can be kind of a tricky color to mix, people sometimes
00:01:40 –> 00:01:45 get them a little on the muddy side, so I’m sure that a lot of you will appreciate having
00:01:45 –> 00:01:51 a new Green in the line, and I think it’s quite a lovely one.

The Scupley website says that the Souffle clay has a suede finish which reminds me of Studio by Sculpey. Does anyone know if they are similar?
Yes Jill the new Soufflé clay is very similar to the Studio By Sculpey clay. I will be doing some comparisons between the two as soon as I can, since I still have some of the old Studio clay.

I had not heard of Sculpey’s new Soufflé brand of clay until I went to my polymer clay guild meeting. We have some notable clay artists in the area and a couple had received a package of the new clay plus several new, very interesting, clay tools from Sculpey. They let us play with them and demoed some of them, though they are still experimenting with the clay.
I found out that several of the items are in stock at the JoAnn Fabric & Crafts here (no word about Michaels yet). I found my coupons and got the new bezel mold and the 12-pack assortment of Soufflé on the way home. New coupons arrived for this week’s sales so I’ll be picking up a couple other goodies later. Unfortunately, the head cold I’ve been ignoring has finally taken me out and i’m not doing much work or play the next couple of days.
Cindy, will you be doing a video on the new clay and new tools soon?
Hi Bertha, yes I just got a package of all the new products from Sculpey including the new Soufflé and will be doing some videos soon!
It’s an awesome FB site, Anna. The pics of stuff created by members inspired by Cindy’s tute is a feast for the eyes.
Sure would like to see another photo category created which would house just pics of folks work areas and storage systems. Each pic of that type of thing inspires me to get “smaller” better, and more efficient. Also think it would be pretty popular and interesting to the community.

I confess that I did experiment with some mossy green and some blue that I had lightened with opaque white when I mixed it for a previous project. It naturally ended up too opaque. But I will try again and keep working to produce that almost translucent warm green but with tiny inclusions of vague wheatstraw gold and blue.
I will not use any already made up mix of blue and white this time! I ended up trying out my experimental color to begin the work on a lightly textured wide bangle bracelet. I will find out how that goes later…

Anna, I love that color, and am so excited to see you are attempting it. If you do get it, what did you plan on making with it? I sure hope you will share a pic of what you created with it over on PCT Facebook Member Gallery!
As a child, the wealthy woman who sold my parents her home and property, then built a bungalow, had several of the pottery pieces produced in America in that color, on her mantel. Just gorgeous.
I also just googled image option on “celadon” and was amazed at the color variations.

I am going to look at the google search, too. My story of celadon goes like this:
I had a little teapot that I bought in Los Gatos, California many years ago. Finally something happened to it. But it had just grown more beautiful with age. I hope I come up with a more translucent version of what I made this morning, with a few more specks in it. I will try to remember about the Facebook page. I have not checked in lately.

I am a bit late getting to this section, but maybe this is the place to ask my question.
What is the best green clay to use to make a celadon shade of green. Is it best to use a mix of greens and translucent clay or to use alcohol inks and clear liquid clay?

Hi Anna, I probably have a color in my color recipe series that would work well for creating the Celadon look that you want, but You’d have to look through them all to see if one was the one you like. You are right about needing some translucent in it to get the right ‘look’ to it. Tinting translucent clay would probably give you a closer look than tinted liquid clay would. You could get the color with colored clay or alcohol ink, but it would take some experimenting since I don’t currently have a specific recipe for Celadon. It does give me some ideas to mull around though. I’ll add it to the list of possible future tutorials!
Thanks, Cindy. Thank you for the advice. I will thumb through the recipes in the library to see if something comes close. Celadon is so ephemeral somehow. One of the grass or leaf colors may get pretty close. I will stick with the translucent clay but add either some blue and green clay or the ink to it.

I have a green that I used for my light green jade, it’s posted in the April 12, 2010, blog entry, when we submitted photos to you for a spotlight, the recipe is there, it was 2 11mm balls of Sculpy III Moss (if they still make that color) to a full package of Premo translucent, Anna if you go back there is a photo of a multi color faux jade bracelet, you can see what that color looks like, when I sold them I called it Celedon Green Jade. Hope this helps.

Thanks heaps, Ken. I hope to find some time to experiment today. i think I have a Premo color that must be fairly close to Moss green. The amount makes a big difference, The celadon that haunts my mind is less like jade than like a ‘California raku,’ except with a higher gloss. In other words, it has the warm green, but it has a definite bluish hint there, too.
It is very helpful to know from your instructions how little coloration is required from the pigmented polymer clay to add to a whole block of translucent. Thanks again.
Even the (2) 11mm balls of the stronger colors like the red are a bit too much, I need to “play” with the recipes of the strong colors to get that “glow” that jade has, if there’s more blue your looking for maybe try one ball of Moss (or look alike) and one of the new blue green from Premo. I too was surprised by how little color was needed to tint a full block of translucent. Hope you find your solution.

Tried Twinkle Twinkle on my new sculpt which is a wormhole in outer space and an accompanying Twinchie which is an ancient map of the Solar System. It did a beautiful job of giving me that “outer space” look. As a matter of fact, somebody on FB commented to me that it looked exactly like a starry night sky. I ran out of it and duplicated it with success by adding glitter to black. But of course that took a lot of glitter, so for the price you are ahead to just buy the Twinkle Twinkle. I kinda like the look of jungle on the video and might try it. I got my Twinkle Twinkle from Dick Blick as none of the other onlines had it. They also had the other new colors.
I’m really impressed by the ease with which you open packs of polymer clay Cindy! I usually struggle for a few minutes before giving up and resorting to cutting straight through the covering. Trouble is then that I have to find some way of wrapping it up again, usually a ‘zip’ type bag. It may be some time before our stores carry these new colours, they are way behind your stores in the US. Wish we had a Michaels in the UK!

I actually choose to always slice straight through the packaging instead of unwrapping the clay! That lets me butt all the packages up against each other in colour order without contamination because the only exposed clay is at the back, with the remainder of the packaging still sealed around the clay.
You can see what I mean in this picture (Packages which have had too much sliced off to stand on their sides any more are rested on top of the next new block, so there are a few in that pic that give you a side-on view.)
With soft clay like Premo, I just press any unused straight-colour clay back onto the exposed side of the block. You can see that in the picture quite clearly on the Ecru and the Cadmium Yellow, because of the way those cut packages are positioned, but most of the other blocks have bits stuck on their cut backs too.
For clay like Kato (bottom shelf) which is too firm for any unused clay to be simply squidged back onto the block it came from, I fold an old clay packet wrapper around it, leaving the ends open. (Most of those old Kato wrappers were from the much earlier 85g/3oz package size, because the plastic was thicker and larger.)
Thank God finally a REAL green!! I like to do jungle and flower and leaf themed things and just couldn’t understand why Premo didn’t have a real green. I’ve been mixing my own by adding blue to the other ones but it’s difficult to have any consistency. I’d really prefer to only use Premo as the other brands just don’t seem to hold up very well at least in the things I design which need to stand up to a bit of use. So I am VERY happy to see the new green (what took you so long Premo??). My other go-to color is black so the Twinkle Twinkle sounds terrific also. In fact I’m heading out right now to my local craft stores to see if I can find them!
I have no idea why they reformulated the Rhino Gray.
Dixie- I love Navy Goldstone, in fact it is hard to tell if it is Navy or Black. Twinkle Twinkle mixed with Navy would make a great Faux Goldstone.
Oh Anna, that is sounding gorgeous, never thought of goldstone but maybe Cindy will do a tute on it sometime just to show us the benefits of black twinkle eh? hint,hint…….! I would love to see any kind of gemstone tutorial.

I really think that new green is something else, it caught my eye when I was on the PREMO website the other day (before your video). It looks like it could be a good addition to making a faux Malachite
I am not into glitter of any kind so i would not be interested in them but the green for sure. Thank you for all the info. Love to come and take a look every Thursday night.
I was able to buy the new colors the last time Michaels had their sale and am pleased with all three colors. I love the new jungle green and can see a very nice blend for leaves and such. The black and green glitter will probably work best with Christmas projects or something designated for glitter clay whether for a child or even in some jewelry. The black could even work well in mixing and making some gemstones. I like to keep an open mind as I have found that colors I thought I would never use, have really been useful in new projects I never expected to make. I always like new colors no matter what brand of clay it is, it just gives us more to choose from!
I did find the three new colors at Michael’s today. The glitter green almost looks like a mix of the old fluorescent green and regular green. I would not use the jungle green alone but I think it could be with a more muted Fall palette, maybe even with the new Rhino Gray.

OT – today is the 9th day after my moms successful knee replacement surgery and at 75 she is doing great – thanks, just wanted to share a bit of the happiness we are feeling with the people here who have welcomed me into this sweet group -Sherry:)

Best wishes to your Mom on her surgery, my mom had both knees replaced last year ( she is also 75 ) and it only took me 2 yrs of bullying her into it before she relented, she could no longer walk but was afraid of all the horror stories that she had heard about the long painful recovery, I told her that they have come a long way since a lot of those stories made the rounds and she was already in severe pain ( absolutely no cartelidge left in either knee ) finally she relented and now walks all over the place pain free after decades of suffering. Her recovery was weeks instead of months and is very glad she did it. I hope your Mom is as pain free and happy with the results of her surgery.

I have the twinkle twinkle lovely colour. Like u said green is a funny colour I too like jungle. Il with sue f on the green glitter I also think its a bit bright. My 2 cents worth????

the new colors at Michaels or Hobby Lobby. This is strange since they have the reformulated Rhino Gray. I would like to pick up some of the Twinkle Twinkle. I think it be a cool nigh sky color when combined with Navy.
Anna, thank you for confirming that Rhino Gray has changed! I couldn’t find any information about it on the Internet, but my color recipes were coming out all wrong, so I suspected it had changed. So now I have to reformulate my color recipes. :( Thanks again.
For once I actually got the new Premo colours while they were still new! It took me about 18 months for the last lot, but I got these three nearly two months ago.
I really like Twinkle Twinkle, and it’s actually the *only* Premo Glitter colour that I like.
I thought Green Glitter was a bit ho-hum. The *idea* is nice — I was thinking of using it for Christmassy things — but it’s not the right kind of green for me, and I also think it’s not quite translucent enough to take proper advantage of the embedded glitter. I’ll try mixing mine with Kato Green Concentrate to fix the colour, and Pardo Translucent to bring out the glitter.
But I totally hated Jungle! LOL My reaction was “That’s a deliberate colour? And they expect people to pay for it? Seriously?” Completely opposite to Cindy ;) although I bet I’m in the minority. As usual.
