I can’t believe how fast time flies when you’re having fun. It seems like just yesterday when I was writing about what’s coming up in the Volume-021 video series at the PcT Store. But now a month later, here I’m talking about Volume-022.
As this polymer clay community grows, I’m always on the lookout for how you guys describe your experiences here. It helps me to determine what makes this site different or unique, so that I can keep giving you more of the stuff that seems to be providing the most value. For example…
I can’t tell you all how much I am enjoying polymer clay since I found Cindy – I am totally obsessed! The new pieces of jewelry that I’ve made with polymer clay beads have gotten quite a bit of attention when I wear them. I used to get a few compliments on my jewelry. And speaking of tutes, the following Volume-022 lessons will be released each Friday morning throughout the month of March 2010, to help get you excited about spending some fun time on the weekends playing with your polymer clay.
Volume-022-1 Psychedelic 60’s Cane : This funky cane is my twist on the popular Rainbow Jellyroll Cane. It is the way cooler cousin to this cane for a few reasons. First, it glows in the dark! Second, it is done using alcohol inks and a super easy, yet extremely awesome blending technique, which gives the cane a unique painterly look. And thirdly, It glows in the dark!

Volume-022-2 Polymer Clay Buttons: Whether you sew, knit, crochet, scrapbook, or make jewelry with them, polymer clay buttons make for one of a kind projects! Because they need to be durable and professional looking, there are a few easy tricks you can learn about making them. I know you are going to enjoy the prospects of being able to make your own cool custom polymer clay buttons.

Volume-022-3 Faux Opals: This is one of those techniques that has drawn people into working with polymer clay in the first place. People look at the faux opals and say, “You made that with polymer clay? It looks so real!” I am not the first to make opals from polymer clay, but I do have a few twists on the technique that you are going to enjoy!

I just love opal. I have a gold ring with a large Jelly opal and it is beautiful when the light shines on it. I would love to make a pendant and earrings in faux opal bring it on Cindy woopee!
Volume-022-4 Silver Spoon Bail: Making polymer clay beads and pendants leads to making polymer clay jewelry, which in turn leads to needing great looking findings. What could be better than bails and pendants made with real vintage silver spoons and cutlery? You can even give your jewelry extra meaning by using silverware from the family set or a precious baby spoon keepsake.

Definitely a YES, Cindy. I would love to learn how to do this. I have been admiring your spoon bails for awhile now. I love vintage anything and I would like incorporate that somehow into my polymer clay pieces. Your dogwood clay flower is just beautiful!

Wow! Can hardly wait for Friday! Love the colors shimmering in the opals.
After two days at the gospel music workshop my back gave out yesterday morning and i couldn’t make it to the concert as our car has a problem too. i was so looking forward to participating. Anyway the gold medal win cheered me some – way to go Canada! I’m so proud of the Olympics.
@Cheryl H.: Hi Cheryl, I’m sorry to hear about your back and your car. No Fair! You worked really hard, and it’s such a wonderful thing to be a part of something like that. Making music together with others is an experience that’s hard to match (I only sing; no piano for me, but I remember that glorious feeling.) I pray that your back is feeling better very quickly. I’ll pray for your car, too (sometimes those repairs can be a nightmare!)
I think we’re all proud of Canada — and I’m American! I feel closer to you guys than ever before; beyond just the physical location. This has been a wonderful Olympics, full of inspirational stories and some amazing stars (Tessa & Scott, Alex Biladeux-sp?, Joannie Rochette…) The hockey game was probably one of the most exciting games ever. Canada has always been our neighbor, but I’ve never felt so close to your beautiful country. I even caught myself humming O’Canada this morning. (I was in the US Air Force — I think I could get in trouble for that!) LOL Hope you feel better ASAP, Cheryl!
Thank you, Cindy! What a great selection of tutorials — March is going to be a month full of great videos! I’ve got to find some silverware I can bend, but other than that, I’ve got everything I need to get to work. (At least as far as supplies go.) I need to feel better, but it’ll happen eventually. I’m glad the PsycheJelly cane is first, because my niece saw the pendant and wants one just like it. In order to make it like Cindy’s, I’ll have to go thru my stash to find something I can use for the back of the pendant.

I love the Polymer Clay Faux Opal Pendent with Hammered Copper Jewelry Bail. I would love to see a video on how to make this bail. I tried to make faux opal from someone on the net but did not turn out very well. I think maybe the direction may not have been clear enough. As yours are. I look forward to starting my day reading the news letter with a hot cup of coffee.

The other day I made an extruded flower cane using the cornflower palette, created a pendant from the heart tut, applied the flower cane to it, wired it and created a clasp using those respective tuts, and ended up with one of my favorite pieces to date. Is there a point here you may ask? It’s just that when I look forward to the next set of skills awaiting us I am reminded again about how I have grown in my creative ability. As I looked at this piece which I love, the making of which combined so many of Cindy’s lessons, there can be no question of her limitless ability to push us toward creative beauty, no matter what our level of pc skill or experience.
Oh, and by the way, the March tuts are beyond awesome!!
Oh, my goodness! This is going to be like Christmas all over again. I’ve wanted to learn about all the things you’re going to teach us this month. I can’t wait for Friday!
By the way, congratulations to Canada for the Gold medal won by the Men’s Hockey team today. That’s Gold for both hockey teams!

Putting ‘practical’ and ‘opals’ in the same sentence may be odd, but, no, wait. Many years ago I bought a beautiful opal ring in Lightning Ridge, an opal-mining town in northern NSW, Australia. Incredible place! Anyway, sad to say, during its busy life the ring lost a chip in one of its shoulder pieces – just a small piece but too much for my budget these days to replace. My plan is to make a piece of opal from Cindy’s lesson and use that. It’ll need some sort of green/blue backing, with firey red elements ..h’mmm – what a delicious challenge and what fun I’ll have trying. It may take me ages, but that doesn’t matter, it’s all fun and games. Thank you Cindy, you’re a wonderful inspiration. And so clever with it! XX Mary

BAM!!!!!! – Another grand slam for Cindy. March is out of the ballpark with ideas just like all the months before. I love all 4 ideas and I couldn’t pick out a favorite if I had to. Thank you and your hubby Cindy for the willingness to give so very much to your very Blessed students. For me that is eagerly Blessed student. Another Friday putting me on pins and needles waiting for it to get here…

I love the variation you offer Cindy. It is great to not only get polymer clay techniques but also ways to help use your creations.
